Peter Steele had a kind of presence which one was to never forget. Tall, quiet, a bit intimidating until you realized he was also thoughtful, funny, and surprisingly gentle. His deep voice and slow, heavy bass lines gave Type O Negative their unmistakable sound, but it was the honesty in his writing that really stuck with people. He sang about love, loss, mistakes, and the messiness of being human, all wrapped in a dark, moody atmosphere that felt strangely comforting. He was epitome of goth, in a sarcastic and self-aware way.
